Mentioned below are some of very good tips that you can use to maintain a healthy and beautiful lawn.

Clean your lawn

Inspect your lawn for proper drainage and wear and tear. Gently use a rake to remove leaves and control thatch. Raking will remove dead grass blades waiting to become thatch. Avoid heavy raking as it will possible displace the soggy soil and damage new grass roots.

Soil Testing

Soil compaction is another issue that can plagues your lawn making it difficult for new grass to grow, which in turn lets those annoying weeds to take over. Lawn aeration is the solution for soil compaction as it removes small plugs of soil from your lawn.

Liming the soil can also solve the problem of acidity caused by the presence of moss plants. But if your lawn shows no sign of acidity; there isn’t any need for liming. Liming is a corrective measure that helps to increase pH levels while compost, sulfur and sawdust help to lower it.

Over seeding

Over seeding is done by filling in bare patches due to dog spots or heavy traffic. Spring isn’t the ideal time for over seeding. It is strongly suggested that you over seed during fall, as the new grass doesn’t have to compete with crab grass.

Fertilizing

Make sure the fertilizer contains slow releasing nitrogen and micro nutrients because over fertilizing can lead to diseased grass and weed problems.

Mowing correctly
Mowing is not a mindless chore. Strategize your mowing to get the best out of it. Don’t mow too short otherwise you just shave it off completely. Mow the lawn every time in a different direction so you don’t damage the lawn by wearing out the grass.

All in all, these are some great tips that can help you maintain your lawn and keep it plush green, even in spring.
